One of the best organizations to help expose you to the field is the PRactice. The PRactice is a student run PR firm that services local Ohio businesses such as Stonerock Fitness and Six Strings. This organization gives you the opportunity to get hands-on experience working with clients. You will have the opportunity to work with a team of people to serve these clients. The experience you gain from this student organization will give you a leg up compared to others in the field!
2. Get an internship
Internships are one of the best ways to make mistakes and learn from them! You have the opportunity to apply what you learn in the classroom to the work environment. To get an internship is one of the best ways to get experience and make connections with future employers. A great internship impression could open many doors for you in the work world!
3. Do research
The professors at The Ohio State University are eager to work and advise students with research! This university also aids you in the process of getting participants for any research or studies you want to conduct. Getting involved in research opportunities on campus is the best time to explore in your field and get support while doing it! Research shows employers that you are inquisitive, innovative and dedicated to the field. Engaging in research will definitely help you stand out from the crowd.

5. Create a Portfolio
When you go into a job interview, every candidate will be dressed professionally and have a resume. One thing that will help you stand out from other candidates is to have a portfolio of all of the relevant work that you have done within Public Relations. The content of every portfolio varies from press releases to social media pages you have managed. It is encouraged that you organize your portfolio from your most recent material to least recent material. Having a portfolio will show employers previous work that you have done which goes beyond the surface level of a resume.
