Little habits that changed my life
By: Carly Illos
Having a routine is extremely important to me. I like having a system I can rely on and knowing how I’ll feel after I follow it. The truth is, nothing sticks unless you build it into a habit first. These small consistent actions that I implemented into my life are what created change over time. It’s amazing how tiny habits can reshape your mindset and make you feel more balanced.

Snooze You Lose
This may sound silly, but do not snooze your alarm. I know it's tempting, but save sleeping in for the weekend. I used to snooze my alarm, or even turn it off completely, and it always set the tone for a stressful, chaotic day. Not only did I feel guilty about oversleeping, but I also felt rushed and unprepared. Breaking that habit made my mornings feel calmer and gave me control first thing in the morning.
Make Your Bed
On the same topic of sleeping, make your bed as your first habit of the morning. Habit stacking is something I love, and this is the perfect place to start. Making my bed right when I wake up gives me a small but rewarding sense of accomplishment. It makes me feel productive from the start and motivates me to follow through with the rest of my habits.
Daily Movement
Another habit is trying to move my body every day, even if it’s for 10 minutes. When I’m tired or drained from a long day, this is the habit I struggle with the most, but making it part of my routine has helped me stay committed. Going for a walk on campus with my friends and getting out of the house after a long day of work or classes always makes me feel better! I have never regretted going to a workout class, but I have regretted skipping the workout class just because I don’t feel like going. The more I show up for myself, even in small ways, the easier it becomes to stay consistent.
