Things to do in Atlanta

By: Caitlin Katz

Atlanta is known for being the busy center of the peach state, Georgia. No matter what your interests are, Atlanta has it all. It is especially a great place to live when you graduate. Now, Atlanta is a major city for pop culture as it has become a filming location for several tv and film productions. As such, it is a creative hub full of art, history and culture. It is also home to numerous different festivals throughout the year.

The Beltline, Ponce City Market, and Krog Street Market

The Beltline is one of the big walking paths around Atlanta, connecting over 22 miles of the center part of the city. It has everything a citygoer could want including a lot of green space, a skateboarding area and a dog park. Its location allows you to explore various neighborhoods, restaurants and the likes.

Connected to this are two of my favorite places to go: Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market. Both of these, located on different areas of the beltline, are ideal for shopping and meeting up with friends.

Ponce City Market was an old historical building that has now turned into a food hall with shopping and living spaces. On the top of the building, there is a great view of the city. While enjoying the view, you can take advantage of various activities such as mini golf, the bar and even a small ice rink in the winter.

Krog Street Market is a food court that has various different cuisines. One of my favorite places is Gu’s Dumplings! More recently, different stores have been built there for shopping, but it is known as a great place for food lovers. Atlanta is known for a diverse array of food choices, and you cannot go wrong.

The Georgia Aquarium

The Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the United States. Featuring thousands of different animals, this aquarium holds seven main areas to look at. With seven different encounter opportunities, you are able to get really close to some of your favorite animals. Not only can you swim with these giant sea creatures, they even allow certified divers to dive deep with them.

Offering such a unique experience, this aquarium allows you to sleep under the sea. You can spend a whole night by the water and get backstage tours.

Civil Rights Museum

The Civil Rights Museum is the perfect place to learn about some of our country’s history. Home to Martin Luther King Jr., it is directly linked to one of the largest and most important movements throughout history. This museum hopes to get visitors to see the issue and teach the future generations the importance of protecting everyone’s rights.

World of Coca-Cola

The World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta is one of only a few locations that hosts this special experience. Within your tour, you get to learn about the history of Coca-Cola through many different interactive experiences such as video, the beverage lab, scent discovery, artifacts, the vault and more. Going down memory lane, this tour lets you try all of the different coca-cola products. There are over 100 different flavors!

Whether you want to watch sports, learn about the history or just explore the city, Atlanta is a great place to be. There are so many activities and unique experiences that you can always find something to do. These are a few of the places that I would bring friends to or recommend visiting as a girl who grew up in Atlanta.
