Coffee Shops in Columbus: Underrated Study Spots

By: Ryleigh Sharp

On campus during finals season coffee shops are filled to the brim of people studying. There's never a place to sit, and it feels like a lost cause to wait around for a seat.

However, there are still coffee shops around that people may overlook.

The Pearl definitely has some of those dishes I would have to take a picture of before anyone touched it. Their seafood tower stands out as soon as it arrives at the table, as it comes complete with oysters, shrimp, crab cocktail and tuna crudo. Between the colorful presentation and ocean-inspired details, this is exactly the kind of dish that makes me understand why our phones always eat first.

Kafe Kerouac

Kafe Kerouac is a small coffee shop near campus that offers students a place to grab a coffee and get work done. Kerouac doubles as a record and book store with an alternative vibe and during the evening, occasionally has live music. Located on North High Street just above campus, it is perfect for students who want to meet with friends, or classmates for a group project.

Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea

Sweetwaters stands out from the typical coffee shop because of its focus on global flavors and Asian-influenced traditions. For example, they offer French Vietnamese Au Lait, Imperial Milk Tea inspired by Hong Kong teahouses, Thai Iced Tea and matcha. Most popular for its matcha and teas, Sweetwaters has something for anyone. The cafe has plenty of seating and is perfect for studying.

Daydreamer Cafe

Daydreamer Cafe is another coffee shop right by Ohio State that students may not immediately think of when looking for a place to study. Located on Lane Avenue underneath The Rambler, Daydreamer has plenty of seating and aesthetic scenery. It is perfect for a date or study lock in.

Daydreamer also has a variety of coffee, matcha and specialty drinks, with drinks like a ‘Cinnamon Bun Latte’ and a ‘Berry Fields Latte’ for students who want to change up their coffee order or want somewhere aesthetic to spend time Daydreamer Cafe is for them.

With midterms season coming up, students don’t have to settle for crowded libraries on campus. The Columbus coffee scene allows infinite places to study right beside campus. Whether you want somewhere to study, hangout with my friends, or just have a cup of coffee Daydreamer Cafe, Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea and Kafe Kerouac are places to check out.
