Where to eat for cheap in Columbus
By: Kayda Ryan
As a college student with a tight budget, it can be hard to find restaurants that offer good food at affordable prices.
However, over my past four years at Ohio State University, I have found some great local restaurants that have reasonably priced food and great deals.
Press Grill
Trip Advisor
One of my favorite late-night restaurants in Columbus is Press Grill. Located in the heart of Short North, they offer a large variety of American, comfort-style food. Personally, my favorite things on the menu are the buffalo wings (six wings for $11), wedge salad ($10.50) and cheeseburger ($5.50).
They have weekly specials that appeal to all broke college kids: $7 hotdogs on Monday (you can add coney sauce, cheese, and onions for $2), $2.50 tacos on Wednesday, $16 “Thanksgiving dinner” after 5 p.m. on Thursday and $16 10-ounce New York strip steak on Sunday. Not only does Press Grill offer cheap, high-quality food, but they are also open every night until 1 a.m. Press Grill is located at 741 N. High St.
Tensuke Market and Tensuke Ramen
Yelp
Tensuke Market is a Japanese-style marketplace that is north of Ohio State’s campus. They offer Japanese groceries and products. If you love sushi, you have to try the packaged sushi rolls they make in house! Tensuke Market provides a wide variety of Japanese grocery products you can use to make your own meal at home.
Tensuke Ramen, connected to Tensuke market, is an affordable ramen restaurant. Tensuke Ramen is known as a “casual, fresh and authentic” Japanese ramen restaurant. They offer ramen for $12.95, udon for $11.95, beef curry with rice for $13.95 and a range of sides between $2-$7. Tensuke Market and Tensuke Ramen are located at 1155 Old Henderson Road.
Los Agavez Taqueria
Los Agavez Taqueria
Last but certainly not least, one of the best places to get Mexican food in Columbus is the Los Agavez Taqueria food truck. Even though there are a plethora of Mexican restaurants near Ohio State’s campus, Los Agavez Taqueria offers more authentic, Tijuana-style Mexican dishes. They have tacos for $3, burritos for $9 to $12, and quesadillas for $9. I personally love their birria tacos! The tacos are the most popular (as I have heard from friends and reviews on Yelp). Los Agavez Taqueria is located at 3166 N. High St.
It can be tempting to eat out and try new restaurants in college but it doesn’t always have to break the bank. Columbus offers many different affordable, local options that appeal to college students. I have grown to love these places and I hope you give them a try!
